Leadership Isn’t About Titles — It’s About Training Others to Lead

When I first started building high-performance delivery teams, I thought leadership meant knowing all the answers. It took me years—and hundreds of drivers—to realize that leadership is really about helping others find the answers themselves.

In logistics, especially in the Amazon DSP ecosystem, we often mistake authority for leadership. A boss tells people what to do. A leader teaches people how to think. When you train others with patience and precision, you’re not just fixing problems—you’re preventing future ones.

That’s what I call Information Control. Not control over people—but control over how knowledge flows through a team. Every problem, from delayed routes to driver frustration, is ultimately a failure of information flow. The DSPs that thrive are those that train their people to think like leaders, not just follow instructions.

I’ve trained over 500 drivers. The best ones didn’t start that way. They became great when they learned to ask, “What did I do wrong—and how can I make it right next time?” That question is the foundation of leadership. It’s the moment when muscle memory becomes professional mastery.

If you want a culture that outperforms every week, don’t start with rules—start with training. When your trainers become mentors, when your managers admit what they don’t know, and when your drivers feel safe to ask questions without fear, you’ve built a leadership system. Not a hierarchy.

I’ve seen this firsthand: when one driver becomes a trainer, then a manager, and then a mentor to others, their pride isn’t in the title. It’s in watching the next person rise. That’s leadership in its purest form.

It’s not about power. It’s about purpose.
